Getting PAS 2030 Accreditation

Getting PAS 2030 Accreditation: Real Advice for Real Installers – With Simply certification

I am Andrew Foote and if you’re an installer thinking about PAS 2030 accreditation, here’s the truth: it’s not easy. But with the right guidance, it’s absolutely achievable — and Eco4 Gurus are here to walk you through it, every step of the way. As a consultant for Simply Certification your PAS 2030 Journey starts here.

PAS 2030 Accreditation, Professionalism and Profit

Just in case you don’t know, Pretty much all of ECO4 Gurus Clients came to us as people interested in get their PAS2030 accreditation, and in only 18 months trading as a LTD company we have compliantly lodged over 4000 measures for our clients. How much is that worth to our clients? I’ll let you do the Math’.

So let’s get back to it…

Three Smart Moves to Start Your PAS 2030 Accreditation Journey

  1. Start with a single measure.
Don’t try to do too much too soon. Pick one measure — Loft insulation? Internal wall insulation? Heating controls?— and focus on getting it right. There are lots of very good reasons for this, and it’s not just about simplicity. It’s about learning the ropes without overwhelming your team or your systems.
  2. Make your first project a non-funded job.
Yes, really. Funded jobs come with extra layers of scrutiny, paperwork, and pressure. A non-funded job gives you breathing room to learn, test your QMS, and understand the PAS 2030 process without the stress of chasing compliance deadlines or funder expectations.
  3. Don’t start another project until your first one is fully compliant.
This one’s crucial. Rushing into multiple jobs before your first is over the line is a recipe for chaos. You need to see the full cycle — from design to lodgement — to truly understand what’s required. And trust us, there’s a very good reason for this too.

Why follow these steps?

The reason for following the 3 steps above it to keep thing as easy as possible while learning the compliance, the software required, the processes and management of internal operations and how to ensure you are not only installing to PAS2030 but that your whole project is compliant to PAS2035.

“There are lots of bullets in this industry and it only takes one to hit your project.”

Oops!

An example of an overlooked requirement, in relation to ECO4 funding, Is that if you are installing a heating measure, all rooves are required to meet the minimum u-value for rooves to the most recent Part L of the building regulations. Do you know what that U-value is? Do you know what that means in reality? How thick should the roof insulation be?

How it can go wrong – with the simplest of things

Only this week we had an installer working on his first live project for PAS2030 accreditation. They have years of experience as a lead generator while helping with organising installs and putting together evidence and documents for submission to funders. But we came across an issue. I had advised the Installer to do one measure, not funded, take their time and get it right. Standard!

They were installing a heating measure, then added on solar PV so they could fund it through ECO4, told the occupier and the landlord they could move forward with this, and other works got started on the property some enabling works to support the install of these measures and some works separate to this project.

But there was an issue…

The sloping ceiling of the building had only 25mm of insulation. This was enough for it to not trigger a recommendation in the energy performance report as the SAP raise was too small, but this affects the eligibility of ECO4 due to requirements and hierarchy of measures. The installer had missed this. Which would not have been a problem if it was not a funded job. Our team at ECO4 Gurus would have raised it with the installer but it would not have effected installing the project to PAS2030 and PAS2035. They just wouldn’t be able to fund the project through ECO4 unless they insulated all ceilings to the required U-value that, in reality, could be 150mm of PIR insulation, plaster boards, redecoration, etc, which would eat all the profit in the project and conclude in making a loss.

Getting it right for PAS 2030 Accreditation

We had another discussion with the installer. Explained the above and several other issues and revisited the conversation I’d had with them at the beginning of their journey.

  • One measure
  • Keep it simple
  • Take your time
  • Do it right.

There is plenty of time later on to SMASH the profit side of retrofit…

The Result

The project is now a single measure. It is back with them with a retrofit design and ready to install, and in a few days, while following our training guides, the project will be complete and presented to their accreditation scheme for sign off. Simples!
